When I talk to people about how Iâve transitioned out of the classroom to working from home as a Pinterest manager, they are always intrigued by the idea that you can make money using Pinterest. Their next question is always, âWhat is a Pinterest manager?â.
After I explain what it is that I do, the glazed look comes over. Iâm sure they probably forget what I told them 5 minutes later, haha. I wish I were joking!
While most people understand what Pinterest is, most people (including business owners) donât realize the incredible potential for marketing and profit from the visual search engine. And if Iâm being honest, I didnât realize it either - but Iâm glad I found out!Â
If youâve always loved Pinterest and are looking for a more flexible way to work AND spend time with your family, youâre going to want to keep reading.
Rather watch than read? I also have a video that shares my story - click below to watch. Â
How My Journey Began
As a Pinterest manager, I do freelance work. This means other businesses hire me to do contracted work for them. When I first took some interest in freelance work, I decided to take a course. This program set me up with exactly the tools and knowledge I needed in order to not only start my business but also be successful and understand where/how to find clients.
Doesnât that sound amazing? It is! The course is called The Live Free Academy (formally known as Overwhelmed to Overbooked) and let me just tell you⊠It changed my life. If youâre interested in learning how to start your own business, be sure to get the free guide or watch the free workshop.
When youâre ready to dive into freelancing, be sure to grab my affiliate link for the course here. The Live Free Academy/Overwhelmed to Overbooked (OTO) taught me how to start a business, which entailed many details that would have taken me a long time to figure out on my own.
Okay, now back to Pinterest. Well, sort of.
My first job as a freelancer was working as a social media manager. After about a year, I decided that I would rather die a slow painful death than âlikeâ another picture or create another content calendar for a client.
Sounds dramatic, right? But really, I just couldnât do it anymore.
Around that time, I was feeling totally burned out. Thankfully I had a client ask me to âplay aroundâ with her Pinterest account. She saw amazing results, and quickly, which is sort of unheard of on Pinterest.
It was pretty much history from there. I hustled to replace my social media clients with Pinterest clients and started learning everything I possibly could about Pinterest design, marketing, and strategy.Â
What Does a Pinterest Manager Do?
Fast forward to today. As a Pinterest manager/strategist, I do a lot! Before I get into my responsibilities I wanted to clear up some confusion.Â
You may have heard of a Pinterest virtual assistant or a Pinterest manager. While they sound the same, they are actually very different. Hereâs a graphic to break down the differences:Â
Hereâs a brief list:
As a Pinterest manager, my goal is to take some of the major items off my clients' plates monthly. Donât be intimidated! If Iâm being honest, anyone can learn how to do this.
When I first started my freelance business, I was super interested in Pinterest management, even though I had no idea what that even entailed. Unfortunately for some reason, I was daunted by it! I wasnât intimidated by social media management, but Pinterest was another story.
If this sounds like you too, I would recommend diving into some Pinterest resources.
The Simple Pin Podcast is a great resource for beginners: I learned so much from it in the beginning stages of my business, and still do! Iâve even been featured on Kateâs podcast, which was a dream come true. Listen to my episode, where I share all about my experience with Promoted Pins!
Another great resource is my FREE live training! This training explains exactly how I became a Pinterest manager and it will give you all the tools you need to start your own Pinterest business and land clients asap.Â
Why Would Someone Need Pinterest Management?
You may be thinking, âWell Emilee, this is great for you but why would anyone hire me to be their Pinterest manager?â
The quick answer - to grow their business!Â
But, letâs back up a bit.
Pinterest is a visual search engine. People come to the platform with a problem, or theyâre looking for ideas/inspiration. If a business can answer a problem or provide inspiration, then they should be putting content on Pinterest!
For example, many of my clients are teachers, and they sell their digital resources on the site Teachers Pay Teachers (TpT).
My role as their Pinterest manager is to create Pinterest pins that lead people to both their TpT store, and also their blog (another way for them to market their resources and share value).
I provide strategy and marketing ideas to get as many people to their site as possible. This is where Promoted Pins and Pinterest campaigns come in! The more people who view their pins and purchase from their site, the better their business does.
Hence, the intriguing idea of âhow Pinterest can make you moneyâ! This also means that Pinterest managers will always be in demand. There is a business waiting for you to boost their business using Pinterest!
Ready to Become a Pinterest Manager?
Now that you know about my journey and a little more about Pinterest management, letâs talk about the time investment.
Being a Pinterest manager is definitely something that you could do alongside another job, such as your 9-5. However, if youâre a mom like me, you know that your 9-5 really doesnât make sense for how much youâre making in ratio to the expense of childcare.
If you think that there wonât be an opportunity for you or that the market for Pinterest managers is too saturated, stop! Iâm here to tell you that Pinterest management is definitely something there will always be a need for.
And as an added bonus, with freelancing, itâs totally up to you how many hours you work!
At the beginning of my business, I was very slow (which is normal), so managing one clientâs account felt like a lot! As I learned more and really got my systems and workflow down, I became much more efficient.
In the past, Iâve had as many as 18 clients at once! The downside is that without having an entire âteamâ to support me, this felt like a lot.
My advice is to start thinking about how much you want to work on a weekly basis, and if itâs a goal for you, eventually have your own agency. I can honestly say that as Pinterest grew, so did my business!

Hey I was wondering what age I had to be to become a manager or if it was available for al ages
Hi Maddy! We would suggest over the age 18 just for legal reasons, but past that there isn’t an age restriction! Thanks for your comment.
Hi, I am signed up to take your live training in February. I currently work 5 days a week. I am not currently looking to leave me position as a Human Resource Manager but to add to my current income. I want to pay things off and have more money put aside for that rainy day. When I get this business launched I am looking forward to eventually working for myself and leaving my position. Until that day and until your live training do you have any recommendations on where I should start my research? What I should be reading about? what programs I should be exploring?
Thank you and I look forward to your class.

What course did you take in order to become a Pinterest Manager?
Hi Ana! I actually didn’t take any special course to become a Pinterest manager – I was able to play around with a client’s account and spend extensive amounts of time on YouTube and Google University ;). For this exact reason, I knew I wanted to create a Pinterest manager course. I know the ins and outs of Pinterest and EXACTLY what you need to be successful in managing other people’s accounts. I wish I would have had my course when I was starting out!
I really just need to make a little extra money a month. I work 8 to 5. Love what I do but would like a little extra.
