Ahhh you\u2019re all ready to get started with your Pinterest marketing strategy for your business, and you\u2019ve got your account all set up.\u00a0<\/span>As you move through the items that you\u2019ll need to complete, you get to a very important detail, creating your Pinterest boards.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Naming your boards can be challenging. Do you give them fun names? Names that are a play-off of your brand name? Code names that only you know what mean?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And honestly, have you caught yourself wondering if it even matters what you name your boards?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I\u2019m here to tell you that it absolutely matters what you name your boards. And to make your life a bit easier, I\u2019m going to share with you 3 tips for naming your Pinterest boards.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Why Pinterest Board Titles Matter<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

First things first, let\u2019s talk about why it matters what you name your Pinterest boards. If you aren\u2019t using your Pinterest account for personal use, but you\u2019re actually using it to grow your brand and traffic, then you need to make sure your boards are optimized.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If your boards are optimized, then the title, description, and Pins on the board are all relevant and help Pinterest understand more about you and who you serve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So basically, the title (or board name), helps Pinterest index your content. Then, they know who to show it to based on Pinners\u2019 searches. Since Pinterest is a search engine, anywhere you can use keywords, then you should! Your board titles\/names are a great place to use those keywords!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Did you know that your Pinterest boards can come up under Pinterest searches AND Google searches? Pretty cool that you can get your Pinterest content to rank on Google, right?<\/span><\/p>\n

Tip #1: Do Your Keyword Research<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now that we know why we need to optimize our board titles, let\u2019s talk about <\/span>how<\/span><\/i> we do that.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When I\u2019m starting an account, or cleaning one up for a client, I always do my keyword research before trying to write titles and descriptions for Boards, Pins, profiles, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I can\u2019t stress enough how important it is to do in-depth keyword research for your brand.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Keyword research is vital to your success because Pinterest is a search and discovery platform. If you aren\u2019t using the right keywords, you won\u2019t be attracting the right audience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You might actually not attract an audience <\/span>at all<\/span> if you aren\u2019t using the right keywords!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tip #2: Be Specific With Your Pinterest Board Titles<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

I see business owners give their boards titles that are massively broad, and this means that content on the boards could be all over the map as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For example, if you were a food blogger, \u201crecipes\u201d would be a very broad title for a board. Instead, you could break down all of the different types of recipes such as \u201chealthy dinner recipes\u201d, \u201cbest recipes for toddlers\u201d, and \u201cketo breakfast recipes\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

See how specific some of those board titles are?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That can be a great thing IF you just make sure that you\u2019re creating content regularly enough for that specific content bucket, or topic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You definitely don\u2019t want to be so specific you end up using certain boards only 1-2x a year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So you need to make sure that you\u2019re creating boards with fairly specific titles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There does need to be a balance. You want to be specific but not so specific that you only will ever have a few Pins that are actually highly relevant to the board.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What I recommend doing is your keyword research and also writing down what you feel are the major \u201ccontent buckets\u201d for your content.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Once you\u2019ve done the research and you know your content buckets, you should be able to make a handful of boards pretty quickly!<\/span><\/p>\n

Tip #3: Don\u2019t Be Cutesy With Your Board Titles<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Remember when I said that your boards can come up in Pinterest searches and Google searches?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This is why you need to have strong and search-engine-optimized board titles!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When you\u2019re writing the titles, don\u2019t think about making them \u201cfun\u201d or \u201ccute\u201d. There are certain words, or phrases, that will simply<\/span> not<\/b> help your Pinterest board’s discoverability.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Think about this the next time you want to create a cutesy board title. Ask yourself, \u201care these words going to help the searchability of my content?\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n
