Standard Pins, Video Pins, Idea Pins\u2026 have you ever wondered where you even begin when you\u2019re creating content for Pinterest?<\/span><\/p>\n

I hear ya! It can be overwhelming. But it\u2019s really important that instead of putting the blinders on and keeping your head down with what you’re \u201ccomfortable with\u201d (aka probably Standard\/Static Pins), you lean into these other Pin formats on Pinterest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Types of Pinterest Pin Formats We Can Use for Diversification<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Before I get into the <\/span>why <\/i><\/b>of content diversification on Pinterest, it\u2019s important to discuss some of the most common Pin formats and what type of Pins I\u2019m suggesting you create and implement as part of your Pinterest strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For myself, and my clients, I recommend creating Standard, Video, and Idea Pins on a weekly basis. Now, as far as <\/span>how many<\/span><\/i> Pins for each type of format, it varies. But, these are what I create on a weekly basis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Diversity Allows You to Connect With More Pinners<\/h2>\n

One practice I\u2019ve always made sure to keep up with is using Pinterest from \u201cthe other side\u201d. Yes, I\u2019m a Pinterest marketer, but I still use Pinterest almost daily as a user\/Pinner. Meaning I\u2019m performing my own searches.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Something I\u2019ve noticed about myself is that I definitely have my preferences as far as types of Pin formats I\u2019m interested in clicking on, saving, etc. when I\u2019m searching on Pinterest. And something even more interesting I\u2019ve noticed is that depending on the type of content I\u2019m searching for, I might be more drawn to a specific Pin format.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s an example. I recently was searching for maternity outfit inspiration specifically for Disney World, because I\u2019m currently pregnant and we were getting ready for our big Disney trip!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Because I was just looking for ideas and I wasn\u2019t ready to buy, I was super interested in Idea Pins for this specific search because I could quickly click through multiple different ideas and options.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the other hand, when I searched for \u201chealthy dinner recipes\u201d the other day, I was more interested in Video Pins and Standard Pins, where I knew I\u2019d have a link I could click for that Pin format.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Tip<\/strong>: In case you didn\u2019t know, you can\u2019t add a link to <\/span>Idea Pins<\/span><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So in a nutshell, it\u2019s important to diversify your content via different Pin formats on Pinterest. Depending on the unique Pinner and their behavior, and also your unique niche\/business, this allows you a greater opportunity to connect with your audience!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What resonates and interests one Pinner in regards to the way you\u2019re formatting your content might not pique the same interest in another Pinner!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Pinterest Wants Us to Diversify Our Content<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

We know that Pinterest wants us to not only share fresh content but share inspiration and help Pinners plan out special moments in their life. They want to create a high-quality experience for the Pinner that keeps them coming back!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So not only will fresh content keep Pinners coming back, but unique content formatted in various ways.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that Pinterest wants creators not only to diversify the type of content they\u2019re sharing but to embrace the newest Pin format, which is <\/span>Idea Pins<\/span><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And despite it always being \u201ceasier\u201d to stick with the same old practices on platforms, that\u2019s not how we\u2019re going to grow, and it\u2019s definitely not adapting!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In case you haven\u2019t realized, people are devouring short-form video content. I mean\u2026TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts\u2026 need I say more?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Not only does Pinterest have to adapt or die, but we have to as well as content creators on these platforms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So embrace the video content and make the Video Pins and Idea Pins, and yes, let\u2019s still share the love with Standard Pins as well.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Pinterest Algorithm Prioritization<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you\u2019re new here, then you might not have heard me say this before, but I do not think Idea Pins are optional when creating a balanced Pinterest strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This might be great news to you, if you love Idea Pins, or you might hate me for saying this! And if you have no clue what Idea Pins are, well you should <\/span>start with this blog post right here<\/span><\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I do not think Idea Pins are optional, because as I stated before, Pinterest has straight-up said they want Pinterest creators to be making them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And if that isn\u2019t reason enough to get on board with Idea Pins, the Pinterest algorithm is still prioritizing Idea Pins! Idea Pins are still a newer Pin format, which might be part of the prioritization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Conclusion and Parting Content Strategy Tips for Pinterest<\/h2>\n

I know it can be hard to do one more thing on one more platform, I really do! But in order to see the best results and growth on Pinterest, it\u2019s really vital that you diversify the type of content you\u2019re sharing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Plus, here\u2019s a bonus tip. If you’re seeing one type of Pin format really resonating more than another, you can always increase the number of fresh Pins you\u2019re making in that format. Then maybe decrease the number of Pins you\u2019re making in another format.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, please note, I still recommend serving all 3 Pin formats to your audience on a weekly basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So as a recap, here are the 3 main reasons you need to diversify your Pinterest content. And by content I mean the format in which you\u2019re serving your businesses content:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

  1. Adding diversity to the way you share your content allows you to connect with your audience in unique ways, and this should also tell you more about your audience’s behavior and what resonates with them the most.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Pinterest wants us to diversify our content because it creates a better user experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Sometimes you just gotta play the game. Right now the algorithm is preferring Idea Pins, so they need to be a part of your strategy!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
